2026 marks the 250th birthday of the United States, and the Paso Robles joint unified school district has released some guidelines for classrooms to celebrate this occasion.
This will be presented to the board in its next meeting tonight, with a resolution honoring the semi-quin centennial to be discussed in February. The agenda for tonight says “it is the expectation that… teachers will utilize the resources and/or activities here… every two weeks, from February 1st through June 3rd.”
Activities are broken down by grade level, from interactive maps, reading books about early U.S. history, and drawing for earlier grade levels. Later high school grade levels include analyzing demographics, voting-rights data, debating then vs now topics, and producing documentaries on historic moments.
This is only an information item, with no needed action from the board.
