District attorney Dan Dow announced that a Grover Beach resident has been sentenced to 73 years to life in state prison.
74-year-old George Rodriguez Recio was sentenced for repeatedly sexually assaulting four female victims, three of them minors. He was convicted of 20 felony counts. The DA’s office says the crimes occurred from 1996 through 2024 in Grover Beach, and three of the victims were between the ages of 6 and 12 when the abuse occurred, and one was 25 years old.
Three of the victims attended the sentencing, and a victim advocate read the youngest victim’s statement to the court on her behalf: “I am mad that you betrayed me and my trust. You were my friend. You were my tio pepe. Now you are my worst nightmare. You are the monster behind the closed door. Today, I create my own peace.”
Dan Dow commended the courage of the four victims, and their endurance of the legal process to make this result possible.
