A former candidate for Arroyo Grande’s mayor, and the county-clerk recorder, failed to show up in court for her trial’s first day.
Gaea Powell is being accused of election fraud by the county DA’s office, alleging that she registered to vote at an address where she did not live and failed to properly report income and campaign expenditures. She failed to appear yesterday, but said she plans to attend court today, according to an email read by district attorney Ben Blumenthal.
As a result of her failing to appear, judge Covelle issued an arrest warrant, which will go into effect today at 1:30 pm if Powell does not appear in court.
