The Paso Robles city council discussed discontinuing the employee parking lot program in its meeting last night.
The program was first established in 2018, prior to the paid on-street program to encourage employees to avoid parking in front of downtown businesses.
In a previous meeting, council approved a first reading to discontinue the program following the termination of the downtown parking program, but tabled the second reading for six months to allow stakeholder feedback.
Downtown stakeholders agreed to terminate the employee parking lot program, but Main Street recommended an “employee preferred” signage for these lots, working on an honor system.
In a motion by councilman Gregory, the council voted 4 – 1 to eliminate the employee parking permits, and put up signs that say “employee and public parking” to avoid confusion. Mayor John Hamon dissented.
