Tonight, Paso Robles city council will appoint police chief Ty Lewis the new city manager. Lewis has been a police officer with the city of Paso Robles for about 20 years. He’s been police chief for the past three years.
The council will discuss his appointment as city manager during closed session. His official appointment is the 25th item on the agenda. That will come up after two public hearings and discussion of the Downtown Parking Parklet Program.
Traditionally, city managers go through an extensive training program beginning with an academic program at one of several universities which teach city planning and administration. Then, the aspiring city managers get low level jobs in municipalities to learn the profession from the ground up. Most spend more than a decade as an assistant before becoming city manager. Many serve at smaller cities before working their way up to a town the size of Paso Robles.
