Back to school week going to be a hot one in the north county. High temperatures near 110 for the next couple days. The smoke in the air comes from a fire near Salinas. The river fire has burned about 2,000 acres in northern Monterey county, just south of Salinas.
Because of the hot weather, Paso Robles has a cooling center at centennial park. That’s for humans. You’re advised to care for your animals in the hot weather. Make sure they have plenty of water.
At the Atascadero zoo, director Alan Baker says hot weather is a concern, but the animals are dealing with it. He says there’s a lot of shade, and they have cooling rooms for the animals who are not acclimated to it. Some of the reptiles love it. They’re more active than usual because of the heat.
The zoo is open seven days a week from 10-5, if you’re looking for a place outside to entertain the kids.
