Sunny and warm this week with temperatures in the mid to upper 80’s. But the big story is the lunar event early Wednesday morning.
A super moon, a lunar eclipse and a red blood moon all at the same time. The super moon occurs when a full or new moon coincides with the moon’s closest approach to the earth. The lunar orbit is not circular, it’s elliptical. The moon will be closer this week than usual.
The lunar eclipse will darken the moon. But the eclipse turns the moon a reddish color, because some of the sun’s light still reaches it. Light passes through the earth’s atmosphere and is refracted toward the moon, while blue light is filtered out. That’s why a total lunar eclipse is called a red or blood moon. The moon looks blood red.
We’ll have more on the weather coming up, including temperatures right now in the north county.
