The county board of supervisors will be holding a public hearing this afternoon regarding the annual transparent review of unjust transfers and holds (truth) act.
The truth act outlines the role of local law enforcement in responding to immigration and customs enforcement requests. Sheriff-coroner Ian Parkinson and assistant chief executive officer Robert Reyes will be presenting the information at the hearing.
The sheriff’s office will provide information about ICE’s access to incarcerated persons, and to receive and consider public comments. The sheriff’s office says they received a total of 111 ICE requests in 2024, and 287 in 2025. Requests include detainer, notification, transfer, and interview requests, and are honored only if they met the legal criteria under California law. 0 requests were honored in 2024, and 83 were honored in 2025.
The hearing will be held in the board’s afternoon session. You can watch online if you cannot attend in person, and use the overflow rooms as a large crowd is expected.
