The San Luis Obispo Tribune is reporting the federal government will soon decide if Camp Roberts will house 1500 illegal immigrants who recently crossed the border into the US from Mexico. Congressman Salud Carbajal says the federal government will soon hand down its directive.
The department of defense has not yet issued a final decision.
As of late last week, more than 20,000 children were in US Customs and Border protection.
Congressman Jimmy Panetta of Monterey county says he visited one detention center in Texas and he found it clean, spacious and safe.
Critics have said some of the children at Texas detention centers behaved as though they had a history of being abused by sex traffickers south of the border.
