All three north county football teams on the road over the weekend. All three were victorious.
Paso Robles beat Monache in Porterville late Friday night. Because of the extreme heat, that game did not begin until 8:15 Friday night. The Bearcats won 42-15.
The Templeton Eagles beat Firebaugh 13-7. Josh Allen did not make an appearance at the game in Firebaugh Friday night, although that’s his hometown, and he may have visited after beating the Rams Thursday night in LA.
Saturday afternoon, the Atascadero Greyhounds beat Everette Alvarez in Salinas. That was quite a game. The Alvarez Eagles scored 15 unanswered points in the first quarter, and led 29-7 at half time. But the Greyhounds came back in the second half and tied the game. In overtime, the Greyhounds won it 42-36. A remarkable come from behind win for the Greyhounds Saturday afternoon in Salinas.
In Morro Bay Saturday, about 500 high school distance runners competed in the Morro Bay invitational.
In the girls varsity race, Sydney Moore of Paso Robles finished 3rd. The San Luis Obispo girls team finished first of 24 teams. Paso Robles girls team finished 7th. Templeton was 11th.
In the boys varsity race, Templeton junior Josh Bell won the race by over 30 seconds. A runner from Clovis tried to stay with him, but that ended in the dry sand.
The Morro Bay Invitational attracted more than 500 runners and 28 teams from the central coast and the San Joaquin valley. They call it The Meet That Rocks.
