Several developments in the Paso Robles school district.
First, students are back in the classroom at Winifred Pifer elementary school. Last week, crews disinfected classrooms. When the TV cameras arrived, the crews put on haz-mat suits. You may have seen them. They looked pretty official. The good news, kids are back after a closure because of the corona-virus.
Meanwhile, superintendent Curt Dubost is meeting with representatives of the teachers union, trying to convince the union to remove barriers which prevent teachers from returning to the classroom. Dubost and the teachers union representatives met at the district office late Tuesday.
Yesterday, school board president Chris Arend was expected to hand carry the board’s official response to the grand jury. You may remember, Chris Arend refused to mail it in, as the grand jury requested. He told the board he would hand deliver the response to the judge overseeing the grand jury. It’s not known exactly what was in the document Arend delivered, but we know they will not be taking a copy to the district attorney’s office. There is strong resistance among some senior administrators and several trustees to handing the grand jury response over to the DA’s office for investigation.
