Ethnic studies at Paso Robles high school. Tuesday night, the Paso Robles school board will discuss a course in multicultural America. The primary purpose, according to the district, is to educate students to be politically, socially and economically conscious about their personal and cultural connections to local and national history. The course focuses on themes of social justice, empathy, social responsibility and social change.
The course focuses on the experiences of African Americans, Asian-Americans, Latino Americans, Native Americans and other marginalized peoples in the United States. The course will actively seek out local speakers to provide valuable insight into these issues as they play out in the community.
Erin Haley will make the presentation to the board tomorrow night. The course is reportedly not as extreme as another which is being sent down from Sacramento. That one promotes critical race theory and issues like systemic racism.
