We learn more today about that fire in the Salinas riverbed early yesterday morning. The fire was reported at 1:40 early yesterday.
The first fire engine to arrive found one quarter of an acre burning. The new type 3 fire engine was able to drive right up to the fires edge.
That deployment kept the fire from growing exponentially. The fire was contained at one half acre. Three fire engines and one battalion chief responded. Cal Fire also sent three fire engines, one bulldozer and a battalion chief.
One fire engine from Atascadero fire responded. The cause was determined to be from an unattended fire within a homeless encampment.
