A small fire in the Salinas riverbed yesterday afternoon around 12:30.
The vegetation fire was in the riverbed just south of the Niblick bridge.
Crews were able to quickly contained the fire at just over an acre. It was in the Salinas riverbed just west of Kohls.
The goats and sheep grazing in the riverbed to reduce fuel helped the fire fighting effort.
They also had four fire engines, one bulldozer, one hand crew, and an air attack plane from Cal Fire. One of the fire trucks was from Atascadero.
The cause is under investigation but the fire originated near a homeless encampment.
