San Luis Obispo county supervisors declared the general election on a 4-1 vote yesterday, with supervisor Debbie Arnold casting the lone dissenting vote.
Not everyone believes in this election. Mike Brown is with COLAB, the Coalition of Labor, Agriculture and Business. He said the final 1,182 votes ran more than 70% for supervisor Bruce Gibson, which was quite different from the other balloting, which was 52-54% for Gibson, until Dr. Bruce Jones caught up with the supervisor. Then vote counting stopped for two weeks.
Darcia Stebbins also spoke at yesterday’s supervisors meeting. She said she has concerns about the election, but is told by county staff to “trust the machines.”
One of the really bizarre stories shared at yesterday’s meeting came from an Atascadero resident, where a ballot showed up at her address for someone who had never lived there. The property belonged to Diane Greenaway and her family, and “John” had never lived there. So, why was he sent a ballot at that address? Greenaway told the supervisors she does not trust the vote by mail system.
Regardless, the supervisors voted to declare the election, as Rita Neal instructed. The vote was 4-1 with Debbie Arnold casting the lone dissenting vote.
