Salud Carbajal, a representative of California in the US house of representatives, spoke on Thursday at the San Luis Obispo county Farm Bureau headquarters.
Carbajal expressed support for Diablo Canyon to remain open, saying that decommissioning the plant could cause power outages throughout the state.
Diablo Canyon continues to pursue a valid license renewal application for its two reactors by the end of 2023. Carbajal also spoke on agriculture, saying that he supports using incentives, rather than mandates or regulations, to encourage farmers to implement new practices that combat climate change.
Carbajal also spoke of his support for the recently passed inflation reduction act, which has capped out-of-pocket costs for seniors enrolled in Medicare at 2 thousand dollars per year.
