The Morro Bay city council will be reviewing a comprehensive parking study during its meeting tonight.
The study was first completed in partnership with Walker Consultants’ back in 2020, and was reviewed by the Morro Bay city council in 2021. The study looked at the challenges, needs, and existing parking conditions for the Embarcadero, Morro Rock, and downtown areas in Morro Bay.
The study looked at several potential approaches, which included paid parking. At the time, council instructed staff to further analyze the areas, seek additional input, and develop a paid parking pilot program to bring back to the city council. Staff could not fully proceed with the directions since 2021 due to personnel turnover, council election, and other time constraints.
In tonight’s meeting, staff is bringing back the 2021 study, and their proposed paid parking program in the Morro Rock area for review by the council. Council may decide on what direction they provide to staff, whether to pursue the program, conduct further evaluations, or decide they are not interested in a paid parking program.
Tonight’s meeting begins at 5:30 pm at Veterans Memorial Hall in Morro Bay.
