The county district attorney’s office announced on Friday that a jury convicted 36-year-old Nathan Abate for sexual assault crimes.
During the thirteen-day trial, the jury heard accounts by several young female victims of Abate’s repeated pattern of sexual assault; the DA’s office says he would frequently provide alcohol to youthful women prior to sexually assaulting them.
He has been convicted of 2 counts of forcible rape, 3 counts of rape of an intoxicated victim, and 4 counts of oral copulation of a person under the age of 18.
District attorney Dan Dow commended the women for their bravery in reporting the crimes that were inflicted on them when they were much younger and vulnerable.
The DA’s office encourages anyone who has been a victim of sexual assault to contact a local law enforcement agency where the crime had ocurred, and to know that there are individuals and organizations willing and able to support them.
