The Atascadero city council will discuss authorizing the purchasing of a new type 1 fire engine in its next meeting.
The city’s fire department fleet includes 3 type 1 fire engines, the “primary engine for most incidents.” The agenda for the meeting describes them as “the workhoses of the city’s fleet.”
Engine 7591 was first placed into service in 2005, serving the community for over 20 years at this point. The agenda says the engine has not only served Atascadero, but communities all over the state as part of California’s mutual aid system. The replacement of this engine was ordered in 2023, due to increased maintenance costs and concerns for ongoing reliability.
Expenditure of funds is expected to be in the 2027 – 28 budget for Atascadero, funded from the vehicle replacement fund at about 1.2 million dollars.
You can attend the meeting on Tuesday at 6 pm in person, or listen right here on KPRL.
