Beam me up, Scotty. How many times have you heard that expression? Well, for the chief engineer of the USS Enterprise, it came true.
James Doohan, who portrayed Scotty on Star Trek, died back in 2005. His ashes were interred on the International Space Station. Doohan died at the age of 85 back in 2005. Some of his ashes had previously been launched into space a couple of other times.
Richard Garriott was the first private citizen to fly into space. He took some of Scotty’s ashes to the international space station in 2008. The story just coming out this week.
So, now, beam me up, Scotty, has new meaning. Scotty is really out there in space.
