Caltrans has announced an estimated reopening date for Paul’s Slide: late spring 2024.
Paul’s Slide was first closed in January of this year due to the atmospheric river storms, and crews have been working seven days a week to reopen highway 1 to vehicle and bicycle traffic.
Caltrans says crews still need to grade and contour the slope, install a new series of culverts to convey water and debris under the roadway, install protective rockfall barriers, and conduct final surveys and paving of the road.
Caltrans says they are confident in how long it will take for the work to be completed, but they added uncertainty of how winter rains will affect the timeline means the production could be delayed multiple days.
