Caltrans announced that a retaining wall below highway 1, just under a mile north of Fernwood, was loosened after the recent rains and water flows from the Big Sur river.
Caltrans crews have begun work to replace the retaining wall, delivering large rocks to the site in preparation.
Currently engineering and environmental assessments are being conducted to inform the repair design, and Caltrans will provide updates on when wall replacement work will begin.
There is no anticipated impact to travelers as a result of the current mobilization efforts.
