CHP will be entering another holiday enforcement period, this time for New Year’s.
The enforcement period will start at 6 pm on Wednesday, December 31st, and conclude just before midnight on Thursday, January 1st. CHP encourages drivers to follow traffic laws, slow down, and always drive sober.
During last year’s enforcement period for the new year, CHP reported 10 fatal crashes and 481 arrests statewide for driving under the influence. CHP also says during the recent Christmas enforcement period, CHP officers made a total of 297 DUI arrests.
Before counting down to the new year, CHP advises everyone to plan ahead: designate a sober driver, use a ride-share service, or public transportation, and report drunk drivers by calling 9-1-1.
