The Atascadero city council will hold a public hearing in its meeting tomorrow afternoon for increasing wastewater rates.
The proposition 218 process for wastewater increases was first initiated at the end of April. The increases are due to rising costs of maintenance and infrastructure of the city’s wastewater system; the increase is proposed to be 18.5%. Per proposition 218, if 50+1% of voters protest the increase through either written or verbal protest, it cannot take effect.
Also on tomorrow’s agenda is the approval of the city’s two-year budget cycle. The budget for fiscal years 2025 – 26, and 2026 – 27 was reviewed in late May. The budget for 25 – 26 is proposed to be around 69.2 million dollars, with expenditures of 71.8 million dollars. Fiscal year 26 – 27 is proposed to be 77.6 million dollars for revenues, and 78.9 in expenditures.
