THE COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT REPORTS THAT A MAN IN HIS 80’S WITH CORONA-VIRUS DIED SATURDAY. THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT SAYS HE HAD UNDERLYING HEALTH CONDITIONS AND WAS HOSPITALIZED. KPRL LEARNS, THE MAN WAS 86-YEARS-OLD AND LIVED IN HERITAGE RANCH AT THE LAKE.
COUNTY HEALTH DIRECTOR DR. BORENSTEIN SAYS, “MOST CASES OF COVID-19 EXHIBIT MILD OR MODERATE SYMPTOMS. YET THIS TRAGIC DEATH UNDERSCORES THE URGENT NEED FOR US TO PROTECT RESIDENTS AT HIGHER RISK OF DEVELOPING SERIOUS ILLNESS.”
SO FAR 95 CASES IN THE COUNTY. NO NEW CASES SATURDAY. TWO NEW CASES ON SUNDAY. 65 PEOPLE HAVE FULLY RECOVERED FROM THE VIRUS. 25 ARE CURRENTLY RECOVERING AT HOME. FOUR ARE HOSPITALIZED. 3 IN INTENSIVE CARE.
A NEWS RELEASE FROM THE COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT SAYS PEOPLE AT HIGHER RISK SHOULD STAY HOME AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.
YOU MAY REMEMBER, TWO WEEKS AGO, DR. WARREN FRANKL SAID THE SAME THING. HE SAID THE CORONA-VIRUS DOES NOT LOOK AS THREATENING AS THE SPANISH FLU EPIDEMIC 100 YEARS AGO, WHICH KILLED 50 MILLION PEOPLE WORLD WIDE, INCLUDING HEALTHY PEOPLE AND CHILDREN.
MAYOR STEVE MARTIN SAYS THAT AFTER THE VIRUS OUTBREAK IS OVER, THE CITY WILL TRY TO HELP SMALL BUSINESSES IMPACTED BY THE GOVERNMENT-ORDERED SHUT DOWN.
AFTER ITS OVER, HOWEVER, MAY BE TOO LATE. LAST WEEK, 700 PEOPLE WERE LAID OFF AT MIND BODY IN SAN LUIS. A CAMBRIA RESTAURANTEUR SAID SHE LAID OF 1200 PEOPLE AT RESTAURANTS SHE AND HER HUSBAND OWN AROUND THE CENTRAL COAST.
THE TRICKLE DOWN WILL IMPACT MANY, PARTICULARLY THOSE WHO WORK IN SMALL BUSINESS. THE CITY DID HOLD A SPECIAL MEETING, HOWEVER, TO HELP HOTEL OWNERS AND THOSE WITH SHORT TERM RENTALS. MORE ON THAT TOMORROW.
MEANWHILE, THE PREPARATIONS CONTINUE FOR A MAKE-SHIFT HOSPITAL TO HANDLE THE OVERFLOW IF THE CORONAVIRUS OVERWHELMS LOCAL HOSPITALS. THE COUNTY HEALTH DIRECTOR WANTS MORE VOLUNTEERS. PENNY BORENSTEIN SAYS IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO VOLUNTEER, YOU MAY CONTACT THE COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT.
