The county board of supervisors will be discussing the recommended budget for fiscal year 2024 – 25 in its regular meeting tomorrow.
Workshops for the budget’s development process began in fall 2023, and a hearing will also likely take place in June this year. The budget overview for this year says that the proposed budget authorizes a spending level of $851.8 million, an increase of about $6.8 million compared to the previous fiscal year.
This upcoming fiscal year, a budget shortfall of about $16 to $24 million was predicted due to the anticipated elimination of several one-time funding sources. As a result, staff predicts that this next fiscal year will be the first in a three year “austerity plan,” which will look to close the budget gap over the next three fiscal years through short and long term reductions.
This year’s reductions will be about $15.6 million, the largest being $8.9 million in department general fund reductions.
