Morro Bay police are looking for a man who stole live crabs from an outdoor tank next to a fish market on Front street. At 3:30 Saturday morning, the man drove up to an outdoor tank at Giovanni’s Fish Market and cut the locks to the outdoor crab tank. In ten minutes, he stole $200 to $300 worth of live crab. He put them in a container in his trunk and drove away.
The suspect’s car is a 1997-2001 Toyota Camry with a missing hubcap. The man was wearing a wedding ring, and has tattoo sleeves down his arm. There was a child’s doll in the back seat. The man has a distinctive haircut. He used a fishing pole as a prop or disguise during the theft of the crab.
Security cameras caught the theft on video. That video has been shared several hundred times on Facebook.
Fish Market owner Giovanni Degarimore says he’s hoping someone recognizes the suspect and calls the Morro Bay police department.
