Former Grover Beach Mayor Debbie Peterson is making a lot of stops on talk shows and public gathering’s to discuss her new book, The Happiest Corruption, Sleaze, Lies and Suicide in a California beach town. The books talks about corruption and bribery of elected officials she witnessed in the south county during the era of supervisor Adam Hill. You may remember Hill died of a drug overdose a couple years ago.
This evening Peterson is talking at republican headquarters in Atascadero. One of the issues she’ll address, the current supervisors race in the newly drawn second district, which includes Adam Hill’s ally and friend, supervisor Bruce Gibson. Gibson is facing a run off in the general election with former Templeton Area Advisory Group chair, Dr. Bruce Jones. Political pundits say Jones is clearly the smartest man in the race. He’s also the more ethical, if that’s a consideration.
Former candidate John Whitworth finished a close fourth in that race, he says he’s now backing Dr. Bruce Jones. The other candidate in the race is not so clear on the race between Gibson and Dr. Jones. Geof Auslen had a lot of backing from Atascadero leaders, but did not capture enough votes to make the general election.
The run-off is between supervisor Bruce Gibson and Dr. Bruce Jones, a retired orthopedic surgeon who served as chair of the Templeton Advisory Group.
The election is in November.
