A jury finds the man accused of killing to people on Morro Strand beach guilty of first degree murder. That murder occurred in 2001.
The jury in San Luis Obispo found Stephen Deflaun guilty of murdering 37-year-old Stephen Wells, and his 11 year old nephew, Jerry Rios Jr. And also assault on a peace officer with a firearm. That was on California state parks ranger Chuck Jackson.
The 63 year old Deflaun was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and was never expected to be competent to stand trial. That changed in April of last year.
