A San Luis Obispo county supervisorial candidate has called for the resignation of supervisor Bruce Gibson.
This came after Gibson announced on December 2nd that he has hired his wife, Cherie Gibson, as his legislative assistant. Cherie Gibson previously held this role from 2016 to 2019 before she retired. In addition to Cherie Gibson, Bruce Gibson announced that Jim Dantona will also be working for his office.
Dantona is the CEO of the San Luis Obispo chamber of commerce, and is the endorsed candidate by Gibson for his seat. Other district 2 candidate, Michael Erin Woody, released a statement calling for Gibson’s resignation, saying it is “nepotism” and “cronyism.” Erin Woody’s release says: “Now every time Gibson and his wife/assistant go to Sacramento on their private plane, Washington DC, or any conference in the United States, SLO county taxpayers will be paying for their vacation and all expenses. This is disgraceful.” Erin Woody’s statement also calls for an investigation into these appointments from the county district attorney’s office, the California Fair Political Practices Commission, and county human resources.
