Today is primary election day. Polls are open until eight tonight.
County clerk recorder Tommy Gong says new laws allow you to register today if you have not registered to vote. You can do that at the recorders office in San Luis or Atascadero until 8 tonight.
In the north county, two elections for county supervisor to be decided by today’s election. In the first district, incumbent supervisor is being challenged by Stephanie Shakofsky. If you see blue signs that say only Stephanie, that’s who they refer to, Stephanie Shakofsky.
In the 5th district, which stretches from Cal Poly to Templeton and east to Pozo and the California Valley, supervisor Debbie Arnold is facing a stiff challenge from Ellen Beraud, who previously served as an Atascadero city council member. Beraud has spent tens of thousands of dollars on her campaign, much of it donated by out-of-county donors invested in the marijuana industry. Yesterday, Ellen received a $2500 donation from water mogul Stuart Reznick.
Today, voters will decide on those two supervisorial races. The election is critical, because the new board will redesign the boundaries for supervisorial districts.
The polls are open until eight tonight. The results will start showing up for vote-by- mail ballots shortly after eight this evening. We’ll have election results on the local races for you tomorrow on KPRL.
