Although many venues canceled Veteran’s Day ceremonies yesterday, the Faces of Freedom in Atascadero held theirs as scheduled. It opened with a fly-over by the Estrella Warbirds, and the National Anthem, sung by Rebecca McKinley.
The guest speaker at yesterday’s ceremony was former Atascadero police chief John Couch, who served as a helicopter door gunner in Vietnam. He talked about his experiences in that conflict and more recently, how it felt to see his son deployed to a combat in the middle east.
Heather Moreno introduced two distinguished veterans.
Al Fonzi says he was surprised to be named one of two distinguished veterans.
The ceremony ended with Taps played by county clerk recorder Tommy Gong and his two sons, Derek and Darin Veterans Day, 2020 at the Faces of Freedom in Atascadero.
