Former Arroyo Grande mayoral candidate, Gaea Powell, announced that she is now running for the position of clerk-recorder in 2026.
Powell is currently on trial, representing herself, for eight felony charges of election and voter fraud. The charges allege that Powell submitted false nomination papers, failed to file campaign finance reports, and registered to vote at an address in the city of Arroyo Grande where she did not reside; the DA’s office alleges she instead resided in a rural part of the county outside of city limits.
On her campaign page, Powell says: “My mission is to restore common sense, transparency, and trust to San Luis Obispo county’s election process.” Her core principles include requiring voter ID, same-day voting, same-day results, in-person voting with paper ballots, and U.S. citizens only.
