In spite of California’s new gas tax increase from 59.6 to 61.2 cents per gallon that took effect on July 1st, the average gas price in San Luis Obispo County dropped one cent to $4.99 a gallon last week, according to AAA.
Nationally, gas prices dropped four cents to $3.14 a gallon. In California, the average price for a gallon of gas fell five cents last week to $4.55. SLO County currently has the sixth highest price for gas in the state.
The highest average price belongs to Mono County with a price of $5.80 for a gallon of regular gasoline. Imperial County has the lowest average cost at $4.23 a gallon.
