Fraud is fleecing the labor department’s jobless programs. In California, the estimate is $11 billion in fraudulent payments. But an additional $19 billion is suspicious. Accounts which appear to be fraudulent.
One analyst says, “The only way that hackers could possibly steal that much money from the program is if there were people inside state government that were giving the hackers codes to gain access to those jobless money accounts”.
Nationwide, about 10% of the federal money went to scammers. That’s about $63 billion.
Meanwhile, after the $1.9 trillion dollar covid relief bill, president Joe Biden is laying the groundwork for spending to improve roads, bridges and other infrastructure.
Last year, democrats in the house passed a $1.5 trillion dollar package, but it was blocked by the republican-led senate and President Trump.
