It’s a brand new national holiday, but several dozen people celebrated Juneteenth in Paso Robles Saturday afternoon. Juanetta Perkins organized the event. She said she was pleased with the turn out.
Juneteenth will be celebrated each year on June 19th. It commemorates the day back in 1865 when slaves in Galveston Texas were told they were free, two years after president Abraham Lincoln signed the emancipation proclamation.
