The Paso Robles mayor confirms reports from federal officials about those 5,000 immigrant children coming to Camp Roberts. Mayor Steve Martin says he was briefed by federal officials on Friday. He says that as many as 5,000 unaccompanied immigrant children who recently crossed the border from Mexico may soon be transported to shelter facilities at Camp Roberts. Martin says the children will arrive in groups of a few hundred. All the medical and educational services would be handled on-base and would not impact local agencies.
Martin says he has requested more information. He validates information passed on by progressive San Luis Obispo county supervisor Dawn Ortiz-Legg earlier last week.
No word when the children will be arriving. But it appears the federal officials will continue communicating through progressive elected officials at the local level.
Right now the department of health and human services has more than 22,000 immigrant children in custody.
