Paso Robles mayor Steve Martin convinces the regional water board to allow the city to clear the riverbed. You may remember the request mayor martin made last week to the water group. Within Martin’s seven day deadline, the regional water board tells Martin his concerns are justifiable.
Water board says it will work with the city of Paso Robles to reduce the short-term fire hazard. The short term plan is to utilize mechanical masticators. Mayor martin says they chew up the vegetation and minimally disturb the soil as they chew. Fire chief Jonathon Stornetta says the mastication began at six this morning. This comes after Paso Robles city staff and the central coast regional water board met yesterday morning to come up with a plan to clear dry brush and vegetation from the overgrown Salinas riverbed.
