A Visalia man was seriously injured when his motorcycle struck a deer near Atascadero early yesterday morning.
55-year-old Wayne Jones was traveling north on Rocky Canyon road south of highway 41 around 2:30 early Tuesday morning. A deer ran out in front of his 1988 Harley Davidson Sportster. He swerved, but could not avoid hitting the deer.
The motorcycle went up an embankment, ejecting Jones. He was able to walk a short distance before collapsing on the shoulder of the road. A passing motorist and neighbor found Jones and called for help. The CHP says he suffered significant head trauma. He was transported to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center.
