Here are some of the new laws that will go into effect starting January 1, 2026.
Minimum wage for California will increase to $16.90 per hour under SB 3.
AB 578 amends existing legislation for food delivery services. The bill would require that a food delivery platform provide an accurate, clearly identified, and itemized breakdown of pay for a delivery, including base pay, gratuity, tips, and bonuses. The law also requires the food delivery platform to provide a full refund to a customer if an order is not delivered or the wrong order is delivered, unless it is determined the customer was responsible for non-delivery, or finds evidence indicating the request may be fraudulent.
AB 621 imposes new laws regarding “sexually explicit material” and artificial intelligence. The law would impose a fine on providers of deepfake pornography.
AB 628 requires that tenants be provided, in good working order, a refrigerator and stove for their leases.
