The first day of December, and it will be another warm one in the north county. High temperatures in the mid 80’s today, around 80 tomorrow.
Yesterday, the city of San Luis Obispo broke it’s record for a high temperature on the date, 86 degrees. The previous record was 83 degrees set in 1996. On Monday in San Luis, the temperature reached 85 degrees, which broke it’s previous record set in 1980 of 81 degrees.
What it demonstrates is the limited data we have on high temperatures in the area. It only goes back 150-170 years, depending on the community.
Researchers who study tree rings and other data have discovered ancient droughts which lasted for hundreds of years in California and the southwest. That’s going back 6-700 years, but unlike places like Europe or Japan, people were not documenting weather phenomenon in California before 1770.
