Paso Robles city council started out with the introduction of staff, the invocation and the flag salute, then a surprising announcement from councilman John Hamon, who took issue with mayor Steve Martin’s instructions on wearing masks at the meeting.
Councilman Steve Gregory agreed with councilman Hamon, so the meeting took a break so that both council people could remove themselves from the library conference room. When the meeting resumed, fire chief Jonathon Stornetta gave a report on covid in San Luis Obispo county.
Despite the surge in cases of omicron, the covid cases are now dropping off in San Luis Obispo county. Paso Robles mayor Steve Martin is in lock step with governor Gavin Newsom and health officer Penny Borenstein, although the governor does not always wear a mask in public.
Last night the council also had a lengthy conversation about parking and permits for seniors in the community. The council will revisit the topic after the parking commission meets to discuss proposed changed in the permit process. More on that tomorrow.
