The Pond Fire is now 67% contained. The wildfire has burned 2005 acres east of Santa Margarita.
Cal Fire is estimating it will be fully contained in about 4 days. The fire started at 4:30 Saturday afternoon at Katacreek road and Huer Huero road. That’s south of highway 58.
Saturday afternoon the fire produced a huge cloud of smoke. Twenty seven engineers, 14 hand crews, five helicopters and two air tankers fought the fire yesterday.
Santa margarita elementary school is the designated evacuation center for those who need assistance.
An animal evacuation center has been set up in the Railhead Ranch area. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
