Rainfall in the north county has the Huer Huero river running strong beside the Ravine water park and along Airport road. Folks have kept track of annual rainfall since the 1870’s.
The wettest rainy season was 1883-1884 when Paso Robles recorded 42.40 inches of rain. More than double what we’ve received this year.
Downtown streets became so muddy, that one man put snowshoes on his horse to visit downtown. That didn’t really work, but it gave people something to talk about for several years.
The second wettest rainy season was 1968-1969. When Paso Robles got just under 32 inches of rain.
Third wettest, 1940-1941. 30.64 inches.
Then, the three next most rainy years were back before 1900 – 1889, and 1875-1878. Each of those season saw more than 30 inches of rain.
This season, the city of Paso Robles public works department has recorded 28.71 inches. We may reach 30 inches this season, but already we’re about the sixth wettest rainy season since they started keeping track in 1869.
