After nearly 25 years, finally an arrest in the disappearance of Kristin Smart, a Cal Poly student from the Stockton area.
Sheriff Ian Parkinson holding a news conference yesterday afternoon at Cal Poly. He said Paul Flores was arrested yesterday in San Pedro and transported to San Luis Obispo county jail. He is being held without bail.
His father, Ruben Flores of Arroyo Grande, was arrested at his home and he’s being held at the county jail on $250 thousand dollars bail.
The sheriff says that additional evidence recovered in 2020 led to Flores’ arrest.
Cal Poly student Kristin Smart went missing in 1996 after attending a party near campus. She was last seen with Paul Flores.
The murder case has now been turned over to the district attorney for review.
Flores and his father are expected to be arraigned today and tomorrow in San Luis Obispo superior court.
