For candidates wishing to run for the 2026 statewide district primary election, the signatures-in-lieu filing fee period has opened.
This allows candidates to collect signatures in lieu of paying filing fees, giving prospective candidates the opportunity to gather signatures that can reduce or fully offset the cost of qualifying for the ballot, according to the clerk-recorder’s office.
The number of signatures needed to offset filing fees varies by office, and registered voter signatures must reside within the jurisdiction of the office sought. Signatures collected for this purpose may also be applied toward the signatures needed on nomination papers.
This signatures-in-lieu filing fee period will be open until June 2026 – detailed instructions will be made available on the clerk-recorder’s website at the end of this month.
