Today the recount begins in the second district supervisors race.
You may remember, supervisor Bruce Gibson beat Dr. Bruce Jones by only 13 votes. That’s out of about 22,000 votes cast in the election for one or the other. Fair elections advocate Darcia Stebbins says the recount will take about a week. Which would mean, county clerk recorder Elaina Cano will name the winner before the end of the year.
Mike Brown says that there were some anomalies in the election results. He says if some of the ballots are not valid, counting them again will not change the outcome. We’ll know next week if the recount changes the result in the election. If not, the board of supervisors will have a progressive majority. That’s in addition to a progressive assembly member in Dawn Addis, and a liberal state senator in John Laird.
