Supervisor Bruce Gibson announced that his wife will not be returning to work as his legislative assistant.
Cherie Gibson submitted her resignation Thursday, with supervisor Gibson releasing a statement and an apology. In Gibson’s statement he said: “My decision to bring Cherie back into her role as employed district staff was approved by our human resources department, and was based on legal determination provided by county counsel in 2016.”
Gibson said, however, he was made aware of a California fair political practices commission decision made in 2019, which held that an employee whose husband served on the board of supervisors in Placer county would be eligible to retain her current position, but would be a conflict of interest for her to receive a promotion.
Gibson concluded his statement with an apology: “I accept responsibility for this misunderstanding, and apologize for assuming the rules of employment are the same today as they were before. It was my mistake.
