The Templeton Community Services District voted to continue its full time 24/7 firefighter staff.
The CSD’s current model allows for a full-time captain, full-time engineer, and part-time reserve firefighter each shift 24 hours a day, made possible by the safer grant from FEMA. The CSD knew the grant would expire in February 2026, and reapplied in 2025 for the grant.
However, they learned in December 2025 that the grant would not be renewed, creating the need to address current funding and staffing for Templeton fire. Reverting back to the previous model would keep reserve firefighters, but substantially increase the burden on captains during each shift by reducing the number of engineers.
The CSD board voted to maintain two full time engineers by downsizing the reserve firefighter program, resulting in a deficit of about $47,000. The board acknowledged that this is a short term solution.
