The women’s NBA season began Saturday. It opened with players walking off the court before the National Anthem was played. Players for the Seattle Storm and New York Liberty dropped their basketballs and walked off the court to the locker room in support of black lives matter before the National Anthem. They wore warm ups with inscriptions like, “say her name” and “black lives matter.”
In baseball, the San Francisco Giants beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-1 yesterday. Relief pitcher Sam Coonrod went into the game in the 7th inning. Sam made national news last week because when the entire Giants team knelt during the National Anthem. Sam Coonrod did not. Sam was the only player to not take a knee. Sam says that he’s a Christian and he kneels only for God. Sam pitched well yesterday which helped the Giants beat the Dodgers 3-1 to get a split in the series. Last year, Coonrod was 5-1 for the Giants. In 33 relief appearances he pitched 27.2 innings. A modest beginning for the Giants new manager, Gabe Kapler, who also took a knee for black lives matter.
